Women’s BJJ Gis for Training and Competition

Find a women’s BJJ gi that fits securely, supports natural movement, and feels comfortable through every round. Bravo BJJ offers women’s jiu jitsu gis for beginners, regular academy students, and competitors looking for reliable uniforms for drilling, rolling, and tournament preparation.

Choose from white, black, pink, and competition-focused styles, with F0 to F5 sizing available on selected products. Custom sizing is also available on certain gis, giving athletes another option when standard sizes do not suit their height, shoulders, waist, hips, or overall build.

Whether you are buying your first BJJ gi or adding another uniform to your weekly rotation, compare the fit, fabric weight, color, and intended use before ordering.

BJJ Gis Designed for Women’s Fit

Finding the right gi can be difficult when the jacket fits your shoulders, but the pants feel too tight around the hips or thighs. A uniform that is too long can also leave excess material around the sleeves and ankles.

Women’s jiu jitsu gis use female-specific sizing to help provide more suitable proportions. A good fit should allow free movement without excessive loose fabric.

You should be able to squat, shrimp, bridge, pass guard, and move your shoulders comfortably without the jacket or pants pulling against your body.

Available Bravo women’s gi features may include:

  • F0 to F5 sizing

  • 450 GSM pearl-weave jackets

  • Cotton-twill pants

  • Cotton drawstrings

  • Reinforced stress areas

  • Firm collars

  • Pre-shrunk fabric on selected styles

  • Custom sizing options

Always check the individual product page because materials, sizing, and specifications can vary between designs.

Find the Right Women’s BJJ Gi Size

BJJ gi sizing is different from regular women’s clothing sizes. Instead of small, medium, and large, many women’s gis use F sizes such as F0, F1, F2, and F3.

Do not choose your size based on height alone. Weight, shoulder width, chest, waist, hips, and thigh shape can all affect how a gi fits.

Before ordering, check that:

  • The jacket closes comfortably across your torso

  • Your shoulders move without pulling

  • The sleeves are not excessively long or short

  • The pants feel comfortable around your hips and thighs

  • You can bend your knees and squat freely

  • The waistband stays secure during movement

Use Bravo’s women’s gi size guide and compare your measurements before purchasing. If your upper and lower body measurements fall into different sizes, a custom-size option may provide a better fit.

Pearl-Weave Women’s Jiu Jitsu Gis

Pearl weave is commonly used for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu jackets because it provides a practical balance of strength, structure, and weight.

Selected Bravo women’s gis use a 450 GSM pearl-weave jacket with cotton-twill pants. Reinforced areas help support parts of the uniform that experience repeated pulling and pressure during grappling.

A 450 GSM gi can work well for regular academy training, drilling, open mats, and hard rolling. Athletes who prefer a lighter uniform can also compare Bravo’s competition-focused women’s gi options.

Women’s Competition BJJ Gi Options

Competition athletes often look for a lighter gi that still provides enough structure and durability for hard rounds.

Bravo’s women’s competition gi uses a 390 GSM, 100% cotton pearl-weave jacket with reinforced seams. The pants use a cotton-polyester blend with an adjustable bungee drawstring.

Tournament uniform requirements can cover:

  • Gi color

  • Sleeve and trouser length

  • Collar thickness

  • Fabric construction

  • Patch placement

  • Overall fit

For the current IBJJF gi competition, accepted uniform colors are white, blue, and black. Pink and other nontraditional colors should generally be reserved for academy training unless your specific event allows them.

Always review the latest rules from your tournament organizer before competing.

White, Black, or Pink Women’s BJJ Gi?

Color is partly a matter of personal style, but your academy and tournament rules should also influence your choice.

A white BJJ gi offers a classic appearance and works well for beginners, daily academy training, and many competitions when the uniform meets the required specifications.

A black BJJ gi provides a clean, modern look and is popular for regular training. Black is also accepted for current IBJJF competition when the gi meets all other uniform requirements.

A pink BJJ gi is a distinctive option for athletes who want their training gear to stand out. It can work well for regular classes and open mats at academies that allow nontraditional colors.

Check your academy rules before purchasing a color that may not be permitted in class.

Women’s BJJ Gis for Beginners and Regular Training

If you are new to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, focus first on fit, comfort, and durability.

A beginner women’s BJJ gi should allow you to practice breakfalls, guard positions, escapes, takedowns, and submissions without constantly adjusting your uniform.

Athletes who train several times each week may benefit from owning more than one gi. Keeping two or three uniforms in rotation makes it easier to wash your gear after each session while still having a clean gi ready for the next class.

Competitors may also prefer to keep a separate competition gi so its fit and condition remain consistent.

What Should Women Wear Under a BJJ Gi?

For regular academy training, what you wear under the gi depends on your gym’s rules and personal preference. Many women choose a close-fitting rash guard or athletic top for additional coverage and comfort.

Competition requirements may differ. Under current IBJJF rules, female athletes are required to wear a close-fitting stretchy or elastic shirt underneath the gi jacket.

Always check your academy or tournament requirements before training or competing.

How to Wash a Women’s Jiu Jitsu Gi

Wash your gi after every training session. Leaving a damp uniform inside a gym bag can create strong odors and make the fabric harder to keep fresh.

For general care:

  • Wash after every class

  • Remove it from your gym bag quickly

  • Use cool or cold water

  • Choose a mild detergent

  • Avoid bleach unless the care label allows it

  • Air dry when possible

  • Avoid unnecessary high heat

  • Store only when completely dry

Even pre-shrunk cotton may experience some change in fit. Always follow the care instructions provided with your specific gi.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between men’s and women’s BJJ gis?

Women’s gis usually use different proportions and female-specific sizing. The cut may provide a more suitable fit around the waist, hips, thighs, and upper body than a standard men’s or unisex gi.

What size women’s BJJ gi should I buy?

Use the product size chart and compare your height, weight, and body measurements. Bravo offers F0 through F5 sizing on selected women’s gis, with custom sizing available on certain products.

Should a women’s BJJ gi be tight or loose?

It should fit securely without restricting movement. You should be able to move your shoulders, hips, and knees comfortably without excessive loose fabric.

What is the best BJJ gi for a beginner woman?

A comfortable, properly fitted gi is usually the best starting point. Focus on the correct size, durable construction, and a color approved by your academy.

Does a women’s BJJ gi shrink?

Cotton gis can experience some shrinkage, especially with hot washing or high dryer heat. Check whether your selected gi is pre-shrunk and follow its care instructions.

Can women wear a pink gi in BJJ?

Yes, if the academy allows it. For competition, check the organizer’s rules because permitted gi colors may be more limited.

What do women wear under a BJJ gi?

Many women wear a fitted rash guard or athletic top during academy training. For IBJJF gi competitions, female athletes are required to wear a close-fitting, stretchy or elastic shirt beneath the jacket.
