Kids Gis
Kids' BJJ Gi for Training, Classes & Competition
A good kids BJJ gi should help your child move comfortably, train with confidence, and focus on learning instead of constantly adjusting their uniform. At Bravo, our children's Jiu Jitsu gi collection includes options for beginners, regular students, and young competitors, with sizes designed for growing grapplers.
Choose from classic black, blue, and white gis, a lightweight competition gi, or a custom option. Our youth range covers sizes from K0000 through K4, giving parents options for younger children and older youth BJJ students.
Whether you are buying your child's first Jiu Jitsu uniform or replacing a gi they have outgrown, the goal is simple: get the right fit, comfortable fabric, and a uniform that can handle regular time on the mat.
Kids BJJ Gi Made for Young Grapplers
Children move constantly during Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They shrimp, roll, grip, pull, sit into guard, practice takedowns, and repeat techniques many times in every class. Their gi needs to allow that movement without feeling unnecessarily bulky.
Our collection includes durable pearl weave and cotton-blend options with reinforced areas where a BJJ uniform receives the most stress. Selected kids' gis use 450 GSM fabric for a balance of strength and everyday training comfort.
For children who prefer something lighter, our Kids Competition Gi features a 390 GSM, 100% cotton pearl weave jacket with reinforced seams. Its pants use a lighter cotton-polyester blend and an adjustable bungee drawstring.
Smaller youth sizes on selected gis also have elastic waistbands, which can make getting ready for class much easier for younger children.
Choosing the Right Youth Jiu Jitsu Gi
Fit is one of the most important parts of buying a youth Jiu Jitsu gi. Children's everyday clothing size or age alone is not always enough because two children of the same age can have very different heights and weights.
Check the size guide for the specific gi before ordering. Measure your child's current height and weight and compare those measurements with the recommended youth sizes.
A properly fitted Jiu Jitsu gi for kids should give enough room for normal BJJ movements without leaving large amounts of loose fabric. Your child should be able to raise their arms, bend their knees, sit into a guard, and move freely.
Buying a very large gi just so a child can “grow into it” may seem economical, but too much extra fabric can make training uncomfortable. If your child falls between sizes, use the product size chart and consider their current measurements and growth rate before choosing.
Comfortable Jiu Jitsu Gi for Kids
Comfort matters more for kids than many parents expect.
A stiff, heavy, or poorly fitted uniform can distract a young student throughout class. This is especially important for toddlers and younger children who may already be getting used to the feel of a martial arts uniform.
Look for a kids' gi that offers a secure fit around the waist, comfortable movement through the shoulders and legs, and fabric suited to the child's training schedule.
Our children's BJJ gi collection includes both regular training options and lighter competition-focused designs. Reinforced seams and stress points add strength where it is needed without changing how a child naturally moves during drills and rolling.
This makes the collection suitable for boys and girls starting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well as children who already train several times each week.
Training Gi or Competition Gi?
A beginner usually does not need an overly complicated gi. A comfortable, properly sized uniform that can handle regular practice is often the best first choice.
For young athletes preparing for tournaments, competition rules become more important. Rules may cover fabric, color, sleeve length, pant length, patches, condition, and overall fit.
Bravo's Kids Competition Gi is listed as IBJJF-approved and is specifically designed with a lightweight 390 GSM cotton pearl weave jacket and reinforced seams.
Tournament requirements can change, however, so parents should always check the current rules of the specific competition before arriving at an event.
For ordinary academy classes, also check whether your child's school has its own rules about permitted gi colors, logos, or patches.
Kids BJJ Gis for Beginners and Regular Training
Buying a first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi for youth does not need to be confusing.
Start with fit. Then consider comfort, fabric weight, how often your child trains, and whether they plan to compete.
Children attending an occasional beginner class may only need one gi. A child training several days each week may benefit from having a second uniform so there is always a clean kids' gi ready while the other one is being washed and dried.
Selected Bravo kids' Jiu Jitsu gis also come with a gi belt and drawstring bag, adding useful essentials for children starting training. Check the individual product page to see exactly what is included with the style you choose.
How to Care for a Children's Jiu Jitsu Gi
A BJJ gi should be washed after training rather than left damp inside a gym bag. Regular washing helps keep the uniform fresh for your child and their training partners.
Cold or cool washing and air drying are generally the safest choices for maintaining the fit of a BJJ gi. High heat may cause cotton-based fabrics to shrink, even when the material has been pre-shrunk.
Always follow the care instructions provided with the specific gi.
Before each class, make sure the jacket and pants are completely dry and check high-contact areas such as the knees, cuffs, seams, and collar for unusual wear.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size kids' BJJ gi should I buy?
Use your child's current height and weight and compare them with the size chart for the specific product. Do not choose a youth gi only by age because children's body proportions can vary considerably. Bravo kids' gis are available in sizes from K0000 through K4.
Can I get a custom BJJ gi for my child?
Yes. If your child wants a more personalized look for training or competition, you can check our custom BJJ gi collection for options with different colors, designs, and custom details.
Are kids' BJJ gis different from adult gis?
The basic jacket-and-pants design is similar, but a good Jiu Jitsu uniform for kids uses youth-specific sizing. Some children's designs also include elastic waistbands or other features that make the uniform easier for younger students to wear.
Can my child use a Bravo gi for BJJ competition?
Our Kids Competition Gi is listed as IBJJF approved. Competition rules can vary and may change, so always check the current rules for your child's tournament and confirm that the chosen size, color, patches, and fit meet those requirements.
How should I wash a kid's Jiu Jitsu gi?
Wash the gi after training and follow its product-specific care instructions. Cold or cool water and air drying are generally good choices for limiting unwanted shrinkage and protecting the fabric and stitching.
How often does a child need a new BJJ gi?
There is no fixed schedule. Replace the gi when your child outgrows it, when the fit starts restricting movement, or when the fabric, knees, seams, cuffs, or collar become excessively worn. Growing children may need a new size before the uniform itself wears out.
