What Does BJJ Gi Material Weight Mean?
GSM Explained
Material weight in BJJ gis refers to the density and thickness of the fabric used, usually measured in GSM. This measurement helps in determining the gi's overall weight, durability, and suitability for different conditions.
-
Lower GSM (around 300-450): means a lighter gi, ideal for hot weather and intense training sessions.
-
Higher GSM (above 550): offers durability but adds weight, making it more suitable for cooler environments and competitions requiring tough gear.
Impact on Performance
-
Lightweight gis allow faster movement but may wear out quickly.
-
Heavier gis are more durable but may restrict mobility.
